A trader kept an owl as his pet. Each day, the owl would regurgitate whatever it had eaten the previous day. The trader would feed the owl a gold coin each day, which the owl would bring out the next day. If the trader fed the owl five gold coins one day, the owl would bring up a gold coin for each of the next five days.
 
One day, the trader was in need of money as he was getting his daughter married. He approached a money-lender and requested for a loan. The money-lender demanded collateral for granting the loan to the trader. The trader said that he had not brought anything valuable with him, but could leave his pet owl as collateral. The money-lender extended a loan to the trader, and the trader went back home.
 
The money-lender fed the owl sweets each day. The owl regurgitated a gold coin over each of the next five days. The money-lender was delighted with the owl. However, starting the sixth day, the owl would only bring up the sweets that the money-lender had been feeding it.
 
The money-lender summoned the trader and demanded an explanation for this. The trader laughed and said, “Whatever you feed the owl, it will give you back the same thing the next day”.
 
When you do good, you reap goodness; when you don't, you reap what you deserve.
 
Fun Fact: An owl grabs its prey and crushes it to death with its strong talons. Then, depending on the size, it either eats the prey whole or rips it up. The owl’s digestive tract processes the body, and the parts that cannot be digested, like fur and bones, are compacted into a pellet, which the owl later regurgitates.
